Marjane Satrapi’s comic books and her biographic “Persepolis” in particular have become critically acclaimed worldwide. And the same thing seems to be happening to her cinematic adaptation of the books! The animated motion picture has received highest ratings in every country it has been released in so far and I went to watch it last night. Let me tell you that while I really liked the comics I LOVED the film!

They have kept the B/W-style and simple charm of the books but somehow added even more dimensions to the 2 dimensions of the drawings! So many embellishing details and so much overwhelming emotions fitted in the animation with such refinement and finesse! It has brought immortal life to the already vivid story and art! “Persepolis” the film has become much more than Marjane’s comic books without being even a bit unfaithful to their origin! Highly recommended to every Iranian out there, especially those whose generation it tells the story of!
